Heb 9:9-15 SUPPLEMENT to New Covenant in NT - Pt 2 Perfect Conscience

©2020 WF Cobb Truthbase.net DailyTruthbase.blogspot

A. Perfect (teleios-end goal) has various meanings as: complete, full grown, mature, finish, fulfill, bring to an end, consummation,

Mt 5:48 you shall be perfect, as Father  Lk 13:32 3rd day I shall be perfected.  Jn 17:23 I in them that they be made perfect in unity...

Note that redemption is different from receiving the promise, and purifying the flesh is analogous to cleansing/purging the conscience

Heb 9:9 first tabernacle/service is an illustration for the present... gifts and sacrifices  offered which cannot make...perfect in regard to the conscience ---10 only foods..various washings ordinances imposed until reformation.  12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.

13 For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh,

14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who thru the eternal Spirit offered Himself w/o spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

15 And for this reason He is the Mediator of the New Covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

B. The end goal of the believer's life and faith (and Biblical teaching) is a holy metamorphosis to enable experiencing God's will

1Thess 3:10 night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face and perfect what is lacking in your faith?

Col 1:28 Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus

Col 4:12 Epaphras...always laboring fervently for you in prayers, that you may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.

Rm 12:2 not conformed to this world, be transformed by the renewing of your mind, demo good, acceptable and perfect will of God.

C. Experiencing God's holiness, will and reward is achieved by a HS led sanctification in the fear of God (that involves suffering)

2Cor 7:1 ... promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Gal 3:3 Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?

Phil 3:12 Not..attained...already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.

Heb 2:10 fitting for Him...are all things...in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect thru sufferings

1Pt 5:10  God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after suffered.. perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you.

Heb 5:9 (suffered, resurrected) and having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him

Heb 6:1 elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,

D. The Law shows us God's intent/desire, what holiness looks like, and what will occur in the future, so we can respond accordingly

Heb 7:11 if perfection were thru the Levitical priesthood (rcv law), what need for another priest  acc to the order of Melchizedek...

19 for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of a better hope, thru which we draw near to God.

Heb 10:1 For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect. 14 For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.

*Heb 11:40 God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us.

Heb 12:23 come to... church of the firstborn...registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect

E. Religious Ritual is no substitute for an abiding obedient relationship with the Creator, the King of Kings and  Lord of Lords

Js 2:22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?

1Jn 2:3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.

4 He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.

6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

1Jn 4:12 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us.

Rev 3:2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before God

3 Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you.
