I. A Christ-following disciple must have their life governed by His objectives; otherwise they’re just taking a walk

A. Bad: To get my needs for ___________ (stimulation, fun, security, fulfillment, companionship, etc.) met through/by others.

1Cor 6:19…you are not your own 20 for you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

B. BETTER: To develop intimate, transparent, and accountable relationships which stimulate Christlikeness (love)

1 Jn 3:23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.

1Th 2:8 So, affectionately longing for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God, but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.  [nothing to hide, nothing to prove, no one to impress]

II. Christlikeness is developed by purposeful interaction sometimes stretching us beyond our comfort zone in conforming us to Christ

2Tim 2:1 You therefore…be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus 2 And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. 3 You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ

                                                      Ez 7:10 seek/learn, DO, teach

A. Fish for Curious/Convinced/Committed people (see next week: In the World, but not Of the World  -  All things to All Men)

Chum (cultivate) the fishing grounds with salt, light, and love

Drop bits of bait (Truth) and see if there’s a bite or a nibble  (cf Mk 4:19)

Lu 12:48  "But he who did not know, yet did things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.

Faithful – follows through on commitment to the Lord and His Body, believing God is Who He’s said, and will do as promised (Heb 11:6)

1Tim 1:18…charge I commit to you…wage the good warfare 19 having faith & a good conscience, which some having rejected…suffered shipwreck

Lk 16:10-11 He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.(mammon)

Involved/Available – involved with the Body (common base & cross-pollination) and the Great Commission, evidenced by sacrifice

Mt 7:6 Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.

Teachable – humility and hunger for Truth and growth in Christlikeness (seeks reproof, not defensive, persevering action)

1Pt 5:5…Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble
