Jude 22-23 Contending for the faith: Reprove or Rapture? Part 1

©2020  WF Cobb Truthbase.net DailyTruthbase.blogspot

22 And on the one hand/men  some  reprove/rebuke 1651/compassion, those disputing=diakrino making a distinction;

23 but/de others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.

I. Contending for the faith requires preparation (spiritual, mental, and physical), performance and prayerful perseverance for the prize

Jude 1:9  Yet Michael the archangel, when contending=diakrino with the devil... but said, The Lord rebuke 2008 thee.

Jude 1:3 needful for me to write, and exhort you that you should earnestly contend/fight for the faith...cx Lordship denying teachers

Lk 19:39  And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said to him, Master, rebuke 2008 your disciples.

Lk 9:55 Fire?  he turned, and rebuked 2008 them, "You do not know what manner of spirit you are of (spirit of nationalistic antagonism cx the Samaritans, vs God's Spirit in v56). 56 For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men's lives but to save them."

Lk 17:3  Take heed to yourselves: If you brother trespass against you, rebuke 2008 him; and if he repent, forgive him. cf Mt 18

1Pt 3:15 Set apart/sanctify Jesus as Lord in your hearts, and always be ready to make a defense/give a reason for the hope (of reward) that is in you with meekness/gentleness and fear/respect. 16 good conscience...defame...revile 17 better to suffer for doing good

4236 Right blend of force and reserve-strength in gentleness; avoids unnecessary harshness, yet without compromising or being too slow to use necessary force.

II. Start at Low Volume (as you would want to be treated; test response) Teach; Encourage; Admonish/Warn; Reprove; Rebuke; Reject

2Tim 4:2 Preach the word; instant  in/out of season; reprove/1651, rebuke/2008, exhort/parakaleo with all longsuffering and doctrine/teaching

1651 ??????? elegcho  AV-REPROVE 6, rebuke 5, convince 4, tell (one’s) fault 1, convict 1; 17    1) to convict, refute, confute  1a) generally w/ suggestion of shame of  person convicted  1b) by conviction to bring to light, to expose    2) to find fault with, correct  2a) by word: 2a1) to reprehend severely, chide, admonish, reprove  2a2) to call to account, show one his fault, demand an explanation  2b) by deed: to chasten, to punish

2008 ????????? epitimao AV-REBUKE 24, charge 4, straightly charge 1; 29    3) to adjudge, award, in the sense of merited penalty

4) to tax with fault, rate, chide, rebuke, reprove, censure severely, to admonish or charge sharply

Titus 1:9 Holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able by sound teaching both to exhort and to convince the deniers

1Tim 1:19 holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and thereby shipwrecked their faith.
2Tim 1:13
Hold on to the pattern of sound teaching/words
you have heard from me, with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

8 sound speech that cannot condemned/criticized 10  For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers 11 mouths must be stopped, who subvert...teaching...ought not, for gain 12...always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons. 13 This witness is true. rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith; 14  Not giving heed to fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

15 conscience is defiled. 16  They profess that they know God; but in works they deny Him, being abominable(idols)/stink, and disobedient, and for every good work disqualified.

III. Dueling with demons requires discernment, discipline strategy, armor, endurance, and prayer (and eventual departure)

2Tim 2:1  be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 things heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others 3 therefore must endure 10,12-reign hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ 4 engaged in warfare not entangles...this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.

14 Remind and charge before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit 15 worker not ashamed 16 shun/about-face and unprofitable babblings? ungodliness 23 avoid foolish and ignorant/unschooled/rude disputes, knowing that they generate strife.

24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel/war but be gentle/affable to all, able to teach, patient/enduring evil=lit

25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth,

26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

Eph 6:9 we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Pr 9:8  Reprove hith impf not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke hith IMPV a wise man, and he will love you. Pr 26:4 not answer fool acc folly

Pr 27:5 Open rebuke is better than secret love.  Ecc 7:5  It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools

Mt 7:6  not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine...trample under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.

Pr 14:7 Go from the presence of a foolish man, when you do not perceive in him the lips of knowledge,

Mk 6:11 whoever will not receive you nor hear you, when you depart from there, shake off the dust under your feet as a testimony against them.

IV. Acquire Ammunition for Admonishment (as a good soldier of Christ)

Genesis: God's existence, creation, communication, character, requirements; satan; (material vs immaterial world, evolution, 7Questions)

Lordship: This world is not all that there is; God's will-not my will be done;

Self-denial is worth it/reward-punishment (there are consequences for my actions even if I don't see them right away);

Life is not designed to be easy, but to make us dependent (trials; God {always-Ps 11} allows bad things to happen to good people);

God's word is true our thots and feelings may not be (unless personal, family and world's values are sanitized and sanctified);

The Body Life is essential for abiding in the Vine and pleasing God,  since its Head is Christ. 1Jn 4:20
