Jude 5   Bad Things Happen to Bad Believers Part A

©2019 WF Cobb Truthbase.net    DailyTruthbase.blogspot

4...ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into wanton caprice and deny our only Master and Lord JC. 5 Now I desire to remind you, tho you know...the Lord, after saving a people out of the land of Egypt, subsequently destroyed those who did not believe

2Pt  2:1 false prophets among you...destructive heresies, even denying Master who bought them, bring swift destruction on selves Acts 20:30

A godly believer knows God is good and just thus do what He wants (believe His promises, deny themselves to faithfully trust, follow and love Him, renew their minds so they joyfully obey His good commands & diligently seek Him and His reward  thus get blessed - Heb 11:6

A bad believer doesn't know nor believe God, so they doubt His just goodness, deny his daily Lordship rather than self, disobey His good commands, and  so what pleases themselves rather than Him thus get disinherited, diminished/cursed, and destroyed.

I. OT Believers are just as much believers in what God revealed as NT Believers, and both reap the consequences of their actualized desires

Ex 13:31 saw power, the people feared the LORD, and they believed in the LORD and in His servant Moses

1Cor 9:24 Run in such a way that you may win 25...exercises self-control in all things. 27...discipline my body and make it my slave...not be disqualified.  10 :1 For I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea; 2 and all were baptized into Moses 3 all ate the same spiritual food; 4 spiritual drink and the rock was Christ.

5 Nevertheless, with most of them God was not well-pleased; for they were laid low in the wilderness.

10:6 Now these things happened as examples for us, so that we would not crave evil things as they also craved. 7 Do not be idolaters,,, 8 Nor act immorally...23k  in one day. 9 Nor let us tempt the Lord...destroyed by the serpents. 10 Nor grumble...destroyed by the destroyer. 11 Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction... 12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it. 14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.

APP: 1Pt 2:11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly/carnal lusts/desires (P/s-s;P;P) which war against the soul

II. Believers are Demonically Deceived that there are no Consequences to their Desires Gal 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. 8 who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9 Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.

2Cor 5:9 we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, acc to what he has done, whether good or bad. Cf 1Cor 3:14-15

Rm 8:5 those who live acc the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live acc to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally/fleshly minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Cf v13 death; Col 3 set affection-mortify

APP: 6:10 So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith

III. Believers need to purposefully purify their desires or they will putrefy/disqualify them Js 1:14 tempted...drawn away by his own desires and enticed.15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. 4:1 come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members?2 You lust and do not have...you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures

APP: Heb 2: 2:1 we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away/past destination

2 For if the word spoken thru angels proved unalterable, and every transgression and disobedience received a just penalty,

3 how will we escape punishment/loss if we neglect so great a salvation?

Heb 3 17 With whom was He angry for 40 years? those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? 18...He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who were disobedient? 19 So we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief.

4:1 Therefore, let us fear if, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may be found/deemed/seen to have come short of it.

2 For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united with faith in those who heard.  3 For we who believe (aorist) enter that rest 6 since it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience, 7 Today if you hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts.

APP: 11 Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall, thru following the same example of disobedience.

Questions for Reflection/Discussion/Response:  Why do people not believe or stop believing  God? (Pt B)?

1. What were the evil things that the Israelites craved? Why do people stop believing? What are some correctives for cravings?

2.What the link between believing and obeying? What someone doesn't obey, what are they not believing? Why should we care about pleasing God?

3. R U Worthy? 2Thess 1:5 worthy of the kingdom of God, for which indeed you are suffering.  6  For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, 7 and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, 8 dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 These will pay the penalty of destruction of The Age, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power 10 when He comes to be glorified in His saints 11 pray worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power, 12 so that Lord Jesus will be glorified in you, and you in Him!!!!, acc to the grace...
