1...sexual immorality 2 gone into mourning and have put out of your fellowship 3 already judged him 5 deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord 6 Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? 7 purge out the old leaven 8 malice and wickedness, sincerity truth 9 not to keep company with immoral people 10 did not mean people of this world, since then you would need to go out of the world. 11  But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people. 12 Are you not to judge those inside? 13 Expel the wicked person from among you Dt 21:21 put away the evil from among you, and all Israel shall hear and fear

Jn 17:14 given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world just as...15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but...16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth

1Cor10:5 But with most of them God was not pleased, 11 as examples, and they were written for our admonition 12 take heed lest he fall

Mt 6:15 if you do not forgive, neither will your Father forgive you 18:35 Father also will do to you, from heart, not forgive his brother 2Tim 2:11 if died/live 12  If we endure, we shall also reign with Him. If we deny Him, He also will deny us 13 if faithless, He faithful
Lk 17:3 Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. 1Cor 15:33 deceived corrupt

II. Our acceptance of others must mirror God's. We can't be more/less loving/righteous/just than He is

A. Mt 10:14 whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet Rev 18:8
1Jn 4:6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth & the spirit of error
Mt 18:17 if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector.
Pr 9:8  Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you; Rebuke a wise man, he will love you 26:4 Do not answer a fool 23:9...despise wisdom of your words
Mt 7:6  Do not give what is holy to dogs; nor cast pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces

B. Rm 15:5 like-minded 6 with one mind and one mouth 7 accept one another, just as Christ also received us, to the glory of God 14 you are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another. 16:17 brethren, note those who cause fleshly divisions and stumbling, contrary to doctrine which you learned, and avoid them 18 they do not serve Lord but their own belly...deceive

C. 2Th 3:6 But we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw from every brother who walks disorderly and not according to the tradition which he received from us  14  And if anyone does not obey our word in this epistle, note that person and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed. 15  Yet do not count him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother

D. 2Cor 6:14 do not be unequally yoked together with the unfaithful. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? What partnership has light with darkness? 17 "Come out from among them And be separate, ...says the Lord and I will accept you”  Ps 1
7:1 promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all that contaminates flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. Am 3:3
1Jn 1:7 if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin

E. 1Tim 6:3 teaches otherwise and does not consent to sound instruction...and to the doctrine which accords with godliness, 4 proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling/slander, evil suspicions, 5 useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth...From such withdraw yourself.

F. Titus 3:7 justified by His grace we should become heirs acc to the hope of eternal life 8 believed in God maintain good works. good and profitable 9 avoid foolish disputes...unprofitable and useless. 10 Reject a divisive* man after the first and second admonition,

G. 2Jn 1:6 This is love, that we walk according to His commandments. 7 many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. 8 Look to yourselves, that you do not lose those things you worked for, but that you may receive a full reward.10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him 11 for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds

H. Gal 6:1 Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any fault, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness...tempted
Eph 4:15 speaking the truth in love 16 body for edifying itself in love 17 no longer walk 18 alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance   Js 5:19 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, 20  let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.

Questions for Reflection/Discussion/Response:

  1. Does God bless/curse? Where do we get our info about God? How do we know what's true? Can the Creator communicate clearly?
  2. Why does God desire His people to be holy and distinct from those merely living for temporal gratification? Are believers judged?
  3. Why do people want to live independently of God and others? Why do people think there are no consequences for their behavior?
  4. How and why do people change? Is it loving to enable self-destructive behavior? Are your relationships according to God's pattern?
  5. How does caring more about what God thinks (fear of God) than what others think affect our behavior? Can you “win 'em all”?
