Ministry Thoughts to Consider

Hebrews 10:24 Ministry Thoughts to Explore (Precursor to Study Guide) BC 3/01

How does one provoke another to love and good deeds? Why is that important?

(The following verses are not “answers” just beginning points for your study. If you’re planning on “ministering” for the rest for your life, take the time over the next few weeks to make sure you have a Biblical view of ministry)

What should be our objectives in ministry? Phil 2:17

What should be our motivation in ministry? 1Thess 2:19

How should we minister to the glory of God? Mt 5:16

What commands are given relating to ministry? 2Tim 2:2

Are there any requirements for ministry? 2Tim 2:21, 1Thess 2:3-4, Lk 6:43

Any warnings given re: ministry? Js 3:1

What kinds of ministry do you see NT believers engaged in? (There is a whole series on NT Ministry Models for Garden Variety Christians).

Define love, ministry/minister, serve/service

Flip through the gospels and observe Jesus in ministry situations. What was His message? With whom was He tough, with whom was He tender? Do you see parallels in Paul’s life.  2Cor is a great book that gives insight into Paul’s ministry mindset as do his letters to Thessalonica (1Thess 2:7-8); Acts gives insight into his actions.

Compile, understand/define, and give an example of the various words used for what believers should do in NT ministry contexts:

speak the truth -Eph 4, establish, encourage 1Thess 3:2, comfort 1Thess 2:11, exhort, reprove, admonish -Col 1:28-29, rebuke, convince -2Tim 4:2, help -1Thess 5:14, compassion 1Pt 3:8, edify, be an example -Titus, dialogue, debate, persuade, instruct, pray -Col 4:12, care -Phil 2:20, etc

What role do relationships play in ministry?

What is manipulation? How does manipulation differ from persuasion? From pressure?

Read “the call” of each of the Major Prophets Ezk 2:1-7, Isa 6:8-10; Jer 1:4-19;

What was God’s point in having the prophets deliver a message that He knew people

didn’t want to hear?

How should we respond when people don’t want to hear?

How does your answer relate to Responding to Carnal Christians and the Church Discipline studies?

How did Jesus and the apostles respond to those who didn’t want to hear?

When should one not cast their pearls before swine?

How does our concern for pleasing men disqualify us from ministry Gal 1:10

What skills do you need for ministry?

How do you become all things for all  men? 1Cor 9:22

What’s the place of our preferences, desires, and personalities in ministry?

How are the needs of those ministering met?

How does ministry to non-believers differ from that to believers?

How does ministry to young believers differ from that to older believers?

Evaluate the comment: You concentrate on deepening your relationship with God and He will broaden your ministry.

Is it possible to do a ministry in the flesh? Why? What are the typical consequences of relying on yourself and not God?

What’s the difference between ministry as a holy hobby or holy sacrifice?

What the difference between a saint, a disciple, a disciplemaker?
